Manage closed testers with a Google Group
In the Play Console you can add closed-test testers as a list of email addresses or as a Google Group. For more than a handful of people, a group is easier, because you add and remove members in the group and leave your track alone.
How it works
- Create a Google Group for your testers.
- In your closed testing track, add the group's email address as a tester list.
- Add each tester's Google account email to the group, or let them request to join.
- Share the opt-in link from the track. A tester only counts after accepting it on the Play Store.
Tips
- Use the Google account email. Testers must use the same account on their phone's Play Store that you added.
- Keep a separate list of who is active. Membership in the group does not show who opened the app.
- Do not make the group public if you do not want strangers joining. Approve members yourself.
- Remind members to keep the app installed for the whole test.
Getting testers into the group
Friends and colleagues are the quickest, but they often drop out. Developer communities add reliable testers who also send written findings. On AppReviewX, testers join your test group with their Google account email, and only you can see it so that you can add it to your group.
