In this guide
A game fails differently from a utility app. Testers rarely hit a missing button; they hit a level that is too hard, a crash on a weak phone, or a tutorial nobody finishes. The closed-test rules are the same as for any app: new personal accounts need a minimum of 12 testers opted in continuously for at least 14 days. Source: Play Console Help, retrieved 2026-10-23. What differs is the test script.
Give testers tasks, not "play it"
"Try the game" produces "nice game". Hand each tester a short list:
- Install and reach the first level. How long did it take? Was anything unclear?
- Finish the tutorial. Where did you hesitate?
- Play three levels. Which one felt unfair, and why?
- Interrupt the game: answer a call, switch apps, lock the screen. Does it resume?
- Turn sound off, then rotate the device. Anything break?
- Go offline mid-session. What happens?
- If there is a shop, open it. Is it clear what is free and what costs money?
- Play for 10 minutes. When did you want to stop?
What to log
Keep one row per report:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Tester | T07 |
| Device / Android version | Mid-range phone, Android 13 |
| Level / screen | Level 4 |
| What happened | Frame rate drops when many enemies appear |
| Severity | Annoying / blocks progress / crash |
| Date | 2026-10-20 |
The example row is made up; use your own data. Private feedback beats store comments here: AppReviewX feedback stays private and structured. Testers cannot leave public Play reviews for test versions according to the Play Console Help.
Turn the log into evidence
At the end, summarise: how many testers took part, which bugs you fixed, what changed because of the feedback. That is the honest material for the production-access form. Do not invent numbers; count from your log.
Game-specific traps
- Performance on weak devices: ask for the device model every time.
- Progress that depends on timers: tell testers how to skip or reset them.
- Test accounts: if the game needs a login, give testers credentials.
