Closed test opt-in link not showing: what to check

The opt-in link appears only for a published test status. Check status, list assignment and review state.

In this guide

You set up a closed test but cannot find the opt-in link. Work through these checks in order.

1. Is the status Published?

This is the one official rule. Google's help page says: "The opt-in link displays only when an app status is 'Published'." In Draft or Pending publication, no link is shown. Look at the status of your app and release, and finish what the Console asks for.

2. Was the release actually rolled out to the track?

A saved draft release is not a live release. Check that the release on the closed track has been submitted and is no longer a draft.

3. Is it in review?

If the Console shows your changes as under review, wait until the review finishes. Google notes that the first publication of a test can take several hours before the link is available to testers. For timing see how long until testers can install.

4. Are you looking at the right track?

Internal, closed and open tests are separate. You can run several closed tests at the same time, so make sure you are on the track you meant.

5. Is a list or group assigned?

Without testers on the track there is nobody to join. Check that your list or Google Group is selected and saved. See add testers.

6. Still nothing?

Re-open the page after a refresh, try another browser, and make sure you are signed in with an account that has access to the app in the Console. If the link shows for you but testers fail, go to tester cannot find the app. To check tester counts, see tester limits per track.

Quick checklist

  • [ ] Status Published
  • [ ] Release submitted, not a draft
  • [ ] Review finished
  • [ ] Right track
  • [ ] List or group saved on the track

Need testers?

AppReviewX has test groups for Google Play: 12 testers, 14 days in a row, for Android apps. Feedback is private and structured; one feedback you give earns one credit, and new accounts start with 0 credits. Nothing is traded for store reviews or installs. Start here.
