Google asks at least 12 testers to stay opted in for 14 days in a row, and its production access form asks how engaged your testers were. Source: Play Console Help, retrieved 2026-10-24.
Testers are usually busy people doing you a favour. Engagement comes from clear, small, friendly asks, not pressure.
What works (in our experience, not measured data)
- Small tasks. "Try the sign-up flow" beats "please test everything".
- One clear next step per message. One link, one question.
- Show that feedback matters. Tell people what you fixed because of them.
- Respect their time. Say how long a task takes.
- Stay reachable. Answer questions the same day if you can.
What to avoid
- Rewards for public reviews or ratings. Don't offer money, gifts or credits for store reviews. Store reviews must stay voluntary and unpaid, and test versions cannot get public reviews anyway.
- Guilt and daily nagging. One reminder per few days is enough.
- Asking people to fake activity. Opening the app for show tells you nothing about how real users will use the app.
Reminder schedule (example)
| Day | Message |
|---|---|
| 1 | Welcome, opt-in link, feedback link, task 1 |
| 3 | Check: did the install work? Task 2 |
| 6 | Short thanks, what changed, task 3 |
| 9 | One question about a specific screen |
| 12 | Last ask: anything still unclear? |
Message templates
Day 3: "Hi {name}, thanks for joining. Did the install work? If you have 5 minutes, please try {task} and tell me what you see here: {feedback link}."
Day 6: "Thanks to your note I fixed {issue} in the latest build. Could you try {task} again? Same link: {feedback link}."
Day 12: "Almost there. Is there anything in the app that confused you? Even a one-line answer helps: {feedback link}."
If someone goes quiet, one polite follow-up is enough. Replace people who drop out, see how many extra testers to plan.
More: closed test testers dropped out.
With AppReviewX
Testers on AppReviewX write private, structured feedback; 1 feedback = 1 credit. That is an exchange of feedback, not a reward for store ratings. Test rounds for Google Play cover 12 testers for 14 days in a row, for Android apps. New accounts start with 0 credits. Join a test round
