In this guide
Screenshot specs change with new devices. This page states what the official pages said on 2026-10-23 and tells you where to look for the rest. Always confirm on the linked page before you export. For what to show and how to write the captions, see screenshots that convert.
Apple App Store (as of 2026-10-23)
From App Store Connect Help, screenshot specifications:
- You must include at least one screenshot and can upload up to 10 per device size, as .jpeg, .jpg or .png.
- Required display sizes: at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), and, if your app supports iPadOS, at least one for iPad 13-inch display.
- Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro and Apple Watch apps need their own screenshots.
- Images cannot include alpha channels or transparency.
The exact pixel sizes per device are on that page and change; this guide does not copy them. Copy them from there and note the date.
Google Play (as of 2026-10-23)
From Play Console Help, preview assets:
- Up to 8 screenshots per supported device type; at least two across different device types are needed to publish the listing.
- JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.
- Each side between 320 px and 3840 px; the long side cannot be more than twice the short side.
- For eligibility in large-format recommendations, the page asks for more (for example at least four screenshots for apps at a minimum of 1080 px). For Chromebook and tablet screenshots, the page describes a minimum of four, between 1,080 and 7,680 px.
The page also covers other form factors (such as Android XR). Read the whole page for your device types.
One master design, many exports
- Pick the largest required canvas from the two pages above and design there. Scaling down is safer than scaling up.
- Keep content in a safe area. Leave margins so text survives different aspect ratios.
- Separate layers. Background, device frame, UI capture, caption. You will swap the caption per language (see localizing your listing).
- Capture UI from real builds in the target device size, not a stretched phone shot. Use the same demo data in every shot.
- Export per store and device type, with the format rules above (no alpha). Name files by store, device and order, for example
ios-iphone-01.png. - Check on a phone. Open the files on a real device at listing size. Is the first caption readable?
Checklist before upload
- [ ] Counts: at least the minimum for each store and device type.
- [ ] Format: no alpha channel, accepted file type.
- [ ] Sizes: copied from the current official page, date noted.
- [ ] First two screenshots carry the strongest message.
- [ ] Captions match the listing language.
- [ ] No outdated UI or prices.
Write the date you checked next to your own spec notes; they go stale.
