In this guide
People say yes to a clear, small ask. A good invitation says what the app is, what you need, how long it takes and how to reply. Keep it under about 150 words.
What every invitation needs
- Who you are and why you ask this person.
- The app in one sentence.
- The time you expect (be honest).
- Install steps for their platform.
- What to try and how to report.
- That feedback is private and honest is welcome.
- A thank-you, and no request for store ratings.
Variant 1: Android (link to a test)
Hi {Name}, I am building {App}, {one sentence}. Could you test it for about {15} minutes? 1. Open this link on your Android phone: {link} 2. Accept the invitation and install the app. 3. Try: {task 1}, {task 2}. 4. Reply to this message with anything that broke or confused you, plus your phone model. Honest feedback is the point; nothing is public. Thank you!
Variant 2: iOS (TestFlight)
Hi {Name}, I am building {App}, {one sentence}. Could you test it for about {15} minutes? 1. Open this invitation on your iPhone and accept it in the TestFlight app: {link} 2. Install the app from TestFlight. 3. Try: {task 1}, {task 2}. 4. Reply with anything that broke or confused you, plus your iPhone model. Nothing is public. Thank you!
Variant 3: Google Play closed test
Hi {Name}, I need testers for {App} on Google Play. The test runs for 14 days in a row, so you need to stay opted in the whole time. 1. Send me the Google account email you use on your Android phone. 2. When I confirm, open this link and join the test: {link} 3. Install the app and open it now and then during the two weeks. 4. Tell me about anything that broke or confused you. Please do not leave the test early; if you must, tell me. Thank you!
Check the current Google Play requirement before you promise a number of days: see Google Play closed test requirements.
Adapt it
- Replace placeholders in {brackets}; example times are only examples.
- Add the test account details if the app needs a login.
- Link your test instructions: how to write them.
