In this guide
Score each check 0 (missing), 1 (partly) or 2 (solid). Maximum 40. Do not chase the total: find the lowest-scoring group and fix that first. Background for each area is in the ASO guide.
Text (checks 1-6)
- The name says what the app is. Why: strangers see the name before anything else. Check: show it to someone who does not know the app and ask what it does.
- One priority phrase appears in the name or subtitle/short description. Why: that is the phrase you want to be found for. Check: can you name it in one line? See title and subtitle.
- The first sentence of the description carries the core benefit. Why: many visitors read only that. Check: read only the first two lines on a phone.
- No keyword stuffing. Why: it reads as spam and can break store policy. Check: read the text aloud; check the current policy on repeated keywords.
- Description is organized. Why: scanning beats reading. Check: short paragraphs, a few bullets, no wall of text.
- No claims you cannot back up ("best", "#1", fake awards). Why: trust and policy risk. Check: search your text for superlatives.
Visuals (7-12)
- Icon is recognizable at small size. Check: shrink it to the size of a search result. See icon tips.
- First two screenshots explain the main benefit. Why: they are seen without scrolling. Check: the five-second stranger test from screenshot guide.
- Screenshot captions are benefits, not feature names.
- Screenshots show the current UI. Check: compare with the live app.
- Video or feature graphic (if used) works without sound and in the first seconds.
- Assets are in the sizes the console currently asks for. Check: compare your files with the current official sizes, see store screenshot requirements.
Ratings and trust (13-15)
- You know your current rating and the last five written reviews. Check: open the store page as a visitor.
- Recurring complaints have a fix or an answer. See replying to reviews.
- The rating prompt comes after a success, not at launch. See when to ask.
Localization (16-18)
- Your top markets have their own text, not a literal translation. See localizing a listing.
- Screenshots in those languages match the text.
- Keywords were researched per language. See keyword research.
Measurement (19-20)
- You know where installs come from and your listing conversion. Check: the console's acquisition reports.
- Changes are dated and tested one at a time. Why: otherwise you cannot tell what worked. See A/B testing.
Reading your score
- Lowest group under 4 of 12 (or 2 of 6): fix it before anything else.
- No reviews yet? Read ASO for a new app with no reviews.
- Making a game? See ASO for mobile games.
