A daily log takes two minutes a day and gives you everything you need later for the production application: who was active, what was found, what you fixed and why. It is your own record. Google's help page requires at least 12 testers opted in continuously for at least 14 days; check the current help for the exact rules.
The template
Copy into a spreadsheet or document, one row per day.
| Day | Date | Testers active | Issues found | Fixes shipped (version) | Decisions / notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | |||||
| 2 | |||||
| ... | |||||
| 14 |
Example row
Example (invented, for illustration only):
| Day | Date | Testers active | Issues found | Fixes shipped (version) | Decisions / notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 2026-11-04 | 9 of 12 | Crash on rotate (3 reports); slow first load (1) | Rotate crash fixed (v12) | Slow load: park until day 7, check on older devices |
How to fill each column
- Testers active. Count who actually opened and used the app, from your own contact with testers or your feedback form. Say "unknown" if you do not know. Do not guess.
- Issues found. One short phrase each, with the number of reports.
- Fixes shipped. Name the version so you can match it to Play Console.
- Decisions. Why you fixed something now or later. This is the most useful column for the application.
Adapting it
- Add a column for "testers dropped out" so you can add replacements early, see what counts as 14 days.
- If you collect feedback with a form, link the entry: beta feedback form.
- Keep entries factual. The log must match what really happened.
- Do not put personal data of testers in the log beyond what you need; first names or IDs are enough. This is not legal advice.
After day 14
Count totals from the log: issues found, fixes shipped, decisions. Use them for the closed test summary.
