In this guide
The opt-in link is the web address that lets a tester join your closed test. You find it in the Play Console on the testing track, and you send it to your testers yourself.
Who sees it, and when
Google's help page says: "The opt-in link displays only when an app status is 'Published'." An app in Draft or pending publication shows no link. Only testers on your list (or members of your Google Group) can join through it. With a group, they must join the group first.
What the tester does
Plain-language steps for the tester (button names may differ):
- Open the link while signed in to the Google account you added.
- Read the explanation of tester responsibilities and follow the link to opt in.
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Open the app and send the developer your feedback.
A tester who is signed in to a different account may not be able to join or may not find the app. Ask them to check the account first.
Message you can send
Hi! Thanks for testing my app. 1) Sign in on your Android phone with the Google account I have on my list. 2) Open this link: {your link}. 3) Follow the steps to opt in to the test, then install the app from Google Play. 4) Open it a few times over the next two weeks and tell me what you notice. If something does not work, reply with a screenshot.
(Example text; adapt it.)
Good habits
- Send the link only after the status is Published.
- Tell testers which account to use.
- Ask them to reply once they have installed, so you know who is in.
If it does not work
- No link on your side: link not showing.
- Link opens, but the app is missing: tester cannot find the app.
