In this guide
A shop app earns money only if the path from product to paid order works every time. Use a test or sandbox payment setup, never real cards for risky experiments. Each item has a reason and a check.
Browsing
1. Catalog and search Why: if people cannot find it, they cannot buy it. How to check: search for an exact name, a partial name, a typo, and a term with no result. Check filters, sorting and the empty-result screen.
2. Product page Why: this is where the decision happens. How to check: images load and zoom, variants (size, colour) change price and stock, an out-of-stock variant cannot be added, long titles and descriptions do not break layout.
3. Slow images and lists Why: shop screens are image-heavy. How to check: scroll long lists on a throttled connection. Do placeholders appear, and does scrolling stay smooth?
Cart
4. Add, change, remove Why: cart maths errors are trust killers. How to check: add several items, change quantities, remove one, and verify subtotal, discounts and totals by hand.
5. Cart persistence Why: people come back later. How to check: fill the cart, close the app, reopen, log out and in, and open on a second device if you support accounts.
6. Price or stock change Why: the cart can be out of date. How to check: change a price or stock level in your test back end while an item sits in the cart. What does the user see at checkout?
Checkout
7. Address and form fields Why: form friction loses orders. How to check: use long names, accents, different postal code formats and phone formats. See Unicode and long text input.
8. Payment success, failure and cancel Why: the same flow must handle every outcome. How to check: in the test setup run a successful payment, a declined one, and a cancelled one. After each: is the cart state right, is the message clear, can the user retry?
9. Interrupted checkout Why: a duplicate order is worse than a lost one. How to check: lose the connection or kill the app right after tapping pay, then reopen. Is there exactly one order, or exactly none, and is the status clear?
10. Totals, tax and currency display Why: surprises at the last step cause abandonment. How to check: compare totals on cart, checkout, confirmation and email. See currency and number formats. Tax rules are not covered here; ask a qualified person.
After the order
11. Order status and history Why: "where is my order?" is a question every shop gets. How to check: change status in the test back end and check that the app reflects it, including notifications.
12. Cancellation and returns Why: a clear exit increases trust in the purchase. How to check: cancel an order, start a return, and verify statuses and messages on both sides.
13. Across devices and networks Why: your phone on office Wi-Fi is the easiest case. How to check: repeat 4, 8 and 9 on a low-end phone and on mobile data.
