How to report a fake or abusive review

Where to flag reviews in each store's console and what evidence helps. Verify current steps.

In this guide

You cannot remove a review because it is negative or unfair. You can report one that breaks the store's posting rules, for example spam, abuse or content unrelated to your app. Decide first which of the two you are looking at.

Google Play

Steps from Play Console Help (retrieved 2026-10-17):

  1. Open Play Console and go to the Reviews page (Monitor and improve, then Ratings and reviews).
  2. On the review, select the flag icon.
  3. Select Report.

What the page says about the result: - "Only reviews that violate the Comment Posting Policy will be removed." Read that policy before you report. - A specialist reviews the report within a few business days. If there is a violation, the review is removed. If not, you see a notice that the request was rejected. - If a report is rejected, you cannot report the same review again. - Reports are limited per developer account per day; on a limit error, wait 24 hours.

Because a rejection is final for that review, report only when you can name the rule it breaks.

Apple App Store

I did not open an official Apple page with the reporting steps, so this page makes no claim about them. Look in App Store Connect help for the current way to report a review, and check whether it is available to your role.

What helps your case

This is practical advice, not a statement of how a store decides.

  • Write down which rule the review breaks (abuse, spam, off-topic, personal data) before you click.
  • Keep a screenshot with the date and the review text.
  • Note patterns: several reviews with the same wording, or a burst in a short time. See sudden wave of negative reviews.
  • Check that the review is not about a real problem. A harsh review about a real crash is not abuse.

When not to report

  • The review is rude but about a real problem: reply instead (see reply to app reviews).
  • You only disagree with the rating.
  • You suspect a competitor but have nothing to show. Do not guess in public.

Never answer fake reviews with fake reviews of your own. That is manipulation too.
