Why feedback can be rejected and how to avoid it

Feedback needs at least 50 characters and a screenshot first. The owner accepts or declines. Common reasons and how to avoid them.

In this guide

The app owner accepts or declines your feedback. One accepted feedback earns 1 credit; a declined one earns none. See How credits work for testers.

The rules in the app

  • Screenshot first. The feedback field unlocks only after you add a screenshot as proof of testing (the step reads "Add the screenshot first to unlock this step"). An AI check of the screenshot is only a hint. The owner decides.
  • At least 50 characters, at most 5000. "great!" is not accepted.
  • The owner decides. Accepted = 1 credit. Declined = none.

The task has three steps: 1. open the store page, 2. add a screenshot, 3. write feedback. Then the owner accepts or declines.

Beyond that, these are the reasons feedback typically gets declined, and what to do instead.

1. Too short or empty

"Looks good", "nice app" or "great!" tells the owner nothing, and under 50 characters it cannot be sent at all. Do instead: describe what you did and what you found, even if all went well.

2. No steps

"It crashed" cannot be repeated. Do instead: numbered steps from a fresh start, what you expected and what happened.

3. Wrong app or wrong task

Feedback about a different app, a different screen than the task, or a different platform. Do instead: reread the task and the store page before you start. Check the app name and version in your notes.

4. Copied text

Generic text, text from the store page or the same text sent to several apps shows you did not test. Do instead: write from your own session. Short and real beats long and generic.

5. No device or OS

The owner cannot tell if the bug is theirs or your setup's. Do instead: add device, OS and app version.

6. Rating or review demands

Feedback that is mostly "give it five stars" or a request for the owner to rate your app. A rating is never part of a test. Do instead: keep feedback private and about the app. See Testing apps is not trading ratings.

7. Abuse or private data

Insults, or other people's private data in screenshots. Do instead: stay factual and crop or blur private content.

Before you send

  • Could the owner repeat each problem from my text?
  • Is it about this app and this task?
  • Did I write it myself, from my own test?
  • Are device, OS and version in there?

If yours is declined

Read what the owner wrote, if anything, fix the gaps and use it for your next one. What makes tester feedback accepted shows good examples.
